Recruit The Right People For Your Mastermind Group

Here's a newsflash for you. There is no law that says you can only belong to a single mastermind group and there is no reason why each of your key employees can't belong to their own peer to peer mastermind group of industry contemporaries.
It may have already occurred to you, that if one mastermind group is working, what if you were an active participant in more than one group at the same time? Imagine the power flowing into your operation if members of the senior generation, today's business leaders, were in a mastermind group and their peers, the next generation successors theirs, and supervisors from each department were in theirs.
If you represent the senior generation in your company, a group composed of your peers - if chosen wisely - could open your eyes and those of the rest of the group to the possibilities that your successors provide. Then when you get together to discuss strategies and tactics for the future with members of your organization you will have with you, virtually looking over your shoulder, the insights of other successful people.
If you're the anointed successor in your business, perhaps you should put together a mastermind group of other successors like you. Won't this add credibility to what you bring to the table, making your input more valuable to your company. What if you have ten employees actively participating in peer to peer mastermind groups? Wouldn't you have a wealth of free well considered information flowing into your organization from every direction?
What would you save if it kept you from making a bad decisions you would have never seen coming? This is leadership development and management training on the fly, continuously double checking your assumptions about what is right and what is profitable, before you take any more steps in the wrong direction.
Next time, take your key supervisors to your trade association event. Task them to connect with some of the peers, the best people in the association doing what they're doing.
Because a mastermind group is a virtual hothouse of actionable strategies, why wouldn't you want that input for every department to address issues and challenges in every area of your business? When considering who each of you should invite to join your group, there is no optimum group makeup formula.
There are however specific qualities and characteristics that make up the ideal group participant in order for the experience to be universally productive. You should be looking for individuals who are successful so you'll trust what you learn from them.
You're looking for people who are motivated and ready to move forward, with goals and a high level of energy. And because of the ongoing nature of the successful group, you're looking for people who are strategy focused.
Strategy focused individuals make excellent thought partners, which is great for you, whether you are strategically focused or not. Some in your group will be more tactical in their thinking while others will be creative. The key ingredient, no matter what, is their commitment - to the group, the process, and to themselves.
This commitment will be demonstrated early on by their participation, showing up for the calls and/or face to face meetings, and following through on what they said they'd do. In my experience it's a trial and error process. If it's not working for someone, you'll need to replace him or her, a rotten apple and all that, and move on.
Believe me, when it comes to having the right mix of mastermind group members, you'll know it when you feel it!
