Overall, obese people have relatively lower sperm count than men with normal weight
, but still ranked within the normal range. This is between 20 and 150 million sperm per milliliter of semen.Scientists do not know whether the difference in sperm count between obese and normal men eventually affect fertility. However, the emergence of a possible correlation provides an additional reason for men to always try to have a normal weight.
However, studies have shown that obese men tend to have altered levels of testosterone and other hormones of the reproductive system. In the German study hormone levels were associated with age rather than body weight.
