Efractive Cataract Surgery is one of the processes used for removing eye cataract. We could say goodbye to thick-lens glasses because of the latest advancement in treating eye defects. Most eye specialist still prefers the astigmatic keratotomy though for nearsightedness, eye specialists prefer to use a more specialized way of correcting it.However, for some refractive errors nowadays, instead of astigmatic and radial keratotomy, it has been replaced by excimer laser surgery since the procedure with the use of lasers has the ability to correct wide range of refractive errors with more precision.

In most cases, several things are performed to identify the extent of surgery needed and the type of surgery employed. Common approaches include topography with the aid of computers and aberrometry. Topographic apparatus determines the elevation level of the cornea and gives the surgeon the exact picture of the corneal surface.

On the other hand, the aberrometry measures the extent of the eye's refractive error. This apparatus can be used together with the excimer laser technology to correct high-intensity aberration issues. Other means of correcting most refractive errors require the procedure of lens exchange. The intraocular lens used for these lens exchange have aspheric optics, or the non-spherical lenses.

The type of refractive surgery applied for each patient is greatly dependent on the extent of the error, and the patients' preference.
