When referring to a full truckload, it requires large quantities of goods that are enough to fill up a whole trailer. This is highly suggested for people who are transporting high amounts of goods frequently since it is cheaper compared to the other kind.

Meanwhile, less-than truckload transportation is used when the amount of goods is not sufficient for filling up a trailer. The weight for a less-than truckload is between 151 to 20,000 pounds. Many different costumers give their products to carrier companies for transportation. These products are then combined on a single trailer. Upon arriving on terminals, the products are again sorted out. Less-than truckload transportation is takes a bit longer than full truckload.

The freights follow a route which may vary depending on the destination of other products. These loads can be transferred from one truck to another for several times during the transportation. In order to solve such time problem, carrier companies put up a schedule for their men to follow. This is to prevent unnecessary delays on the product's delivery. Less-than truckload is not advisable for goods that need to be delivered as soon as possible.

The requirements for transportation depend on the kind of product that you need to transport. The size, quantity, texture and characteristics also matter. But the most common requirement for transportation isrefrigeration. Farmers and businessmen often fear spoilage when transporting goods. This is specifically applicable to those who transport different kinds of foods.

Some of the most common foods that need refrigerated less-than truckload are meats like pork, beef and white meat. A few dairy products also need refrigeration like milk. Ice cream should definitely be refrigerated too. Aside from these foods, fruits and vegetables also need refrigeration.

Products like these should always be placed on trailers that are refrigerated. Failing to do so will cause a lot of damages, especially on the part of the shipper. All the effort on growing and producing the goods will be a waste.
