There are an increasing number of people with heart disease and issues relating to the heart because of poor lifestyle choices and stress. Stress is the silent killer today as out busy lifestyles and increasing workloads mean that we may not even recognise the stress we are under. However, it is important that after ill health we are pro-active and honest about getting back to full fitness. There are plenty of ways, tools and tips for us to do this. But getting fit through walking can be really pleasurable as well as healthy. Even a walk around your local neighbourhood can be good for you fitness and wellbeing. Seeing people out and about that you haven't seen in a long time is something that gives you real sense of belonging and happiness, a known remedy for reducing stress.

However, you want to be sure that you are doing things in the right way. There is some equipment that you might need along the way to monitor your health at home. Of course if in doubt always ask your GP and ask them how to use this equipment properly too.

- Heart rate monitor

- Resistance bands for aerobic exercises

- Body fat analysers

- Blood pressure monitors

- Measure you body temperature with a digital thermometer

Heart Rate monitor

Keeps you at a regular pace when walking and you can see you have not set off to quickly or too slowly and helps you build your fitness over time

Resistance bands

You will need to be shown how to use these but by stretching your muscles, your muscles need oxygen to breathe too and you get good aerobic exercise

Body fat analysers

If you have been overweight or are looking to reduce weight then measuring where you are now and putting a stake in the ground over time you can record your progress. High fat diets are indicative of high cholesterol a major source of heart disease

Blood pressure monitors

High blood pressure again and indication of a poor diet, and too high blood pressure resultant from stress and diet can lead to a heart attack

Digital thermometer

Measure your temperature and don't overheat whilst exercising or too cold when you are warming down after exercise.
