Rehab Clinics: Their Purpose

As far back as the middle of the 20th century

, drugs have been a problem for many people. This is why many doctors have set up drug rehab clinics (which are sometimes state funded) in order to service those who either want or are forced to change their lives. This article will tackle on what a rehab clinic is and why they should be doing what theyre doing.

First of all, lets tackle what drug rehab clinics are. These clinics are centers whose aim is to remove the patients substance addiction permanently. These substances can range from illegal street drugs such as cocaine to legal prescription drugs. Some clinics also treat alcohol addicts. In fact, some clinics nowadays dont just offer rehab programs for drugs, but also for eating disorders as well.

Methods of treating substance addictions vary from clinic to clinic. Some of them would prefer to use Twelve Step Programs which are basically outlines of what the patient will do in rehab and what hell do soon afterward while other clinics prefer to use methods that will conform to the patient seamlessly such as using the patients background in order for facilitators to understand and treat the patient better.

Now, here are the main reasons why drug rehab clinics should continue to be here as long as theres still a drug addict left on Earth:

1. Drug addicts are a threat to themselves and to society.

Drugs can drastically alter a persons mind, having disastrous effects in the process. Examples of these effects include the addict losing his grip on reality, him being unable to determine the difference between right and wrong, among other effects. These will also eventually make the addicts health decay so badly to the point that the person can die.

The addict is also a threat to society as well. Due to the effects of these drugs, drug addicts are more prone to committing violent crimes such as murder or even selling drugs so that other people can use them and become possible addicts as well.

2. These clinics provide their patients with an alternative to prison.

Some of these rehab clinics are linked to their local justice systems (i.e. they have an agreement with their local criminal court). In case a drug user gets caught, he can be sentenced to being required to go to drug rehab instead of jail; something which addicts can greatly appreciate especially if they used drugs in order to alleviate the stress of their lives. Theyll feel that the court understands their predicament and is willing to give them a second chance at life.

3. There are still drugs on Earth.

Materials of which illegal drugs and substances are made of still exist. So long as there are these raw materials, therell be drugs. So long as there are drugs, there will be drug addicts. For this reason, rehab clinics should still stay and keep their doors open.

For these reasons, rehab clinics will definitely still be needed and still be here for a long while.
