Reinstall Printer Driver to Fix Photoshop Printing Error
Reinstall Printer Driver to Fix Photoshop Printing Error
If your projects from Photoshop are not working correctly, then you may need to reinstall the printer driver, the program driver, or both. Many times, you will receive an error like, "/Library/Printers/EPSON/inkjetPrinter/Filter/pdftopdf.app/Contents/Windows/pdftop Fail." Of course, the printer type and file name will change, but you can tell if your error is the same.
Common Symptoms of Printer Error
The frustrating part is the printer will work perfectly with other applications. If you print from Word, Paint, or any number of other applications, the printer works just fine. The problem occurs only when you try to print from PhotoShop.
You may find that similar programs also do not work exactly right. Programs like GIMP or Krista have the same error or may print darker than they should.
Reinstalling the Printer Driver
Reinstalling the printer driver should be your first step. It is simple enough to do and it is a fairly quick process.

a.Windows XP - Start-> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
b.Windows Vista - Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features
c.Windows 7 - Start -> Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs
Select Your Printer
Uninstall Printer
a.Windows XP - Under Change Program, select Remove
b.Windows Vista - Uninstall/ Change
c.Windows 7 - Uninstall
Insert Driver CD
a.If it automatically runs, follow the instructions
b.If it does not automatically run, open the CD folder and double click setup.exe
Reinstalling PhotoShop
If reinstalling the printer driver does not fix the problem, you may need to reinstall PhotoShop. The problem could be with the drivers in Photoshop not communicating with the printer. Follow the same procedures as reinstalling the printer driver to reinstall PhotoShop.
WARNING: When you reinstall Photoshop, you will be required to re-enter the activation key. Do not uninstall Photoshop unless you have this key readily available.
Updating the Printer Drivers Manually.
If you have reinstalled the drivers and you are still having problems, you need to check for driver updates. You can find driver updates for your printer at your printer's website.
WARNING: Only download new printer drivers from the manufacturer's website. Free downloads on other sites could pose a threat to your computer and are not recommended.
Download the appropriate driver updates.
Enter Device Manager - Hold down the window button and press the Pause Break key. Then select device manager.
Open up the printer by selecting the + button next to printer
Right click your printer and select update drivers
Updating Drivers Automatically
An easier and safer way to update your drivers is with driver update software. Driver update software scans your computer for needed driver updates and gives you a list. Next, you click download to download the selected drivers. Last, you click install to install all the new drivers. The whole process takes a couple of minutes and your printer will be working like new again.
