Has your marriage hit a rough patch? Are things not going as well as they normally do

? Has the D word been mentioned? At times like these it is only natural to be worried, and to ask the question "tell me how to stop my divorce." If you do want to avoid a divorce don't panic, there are things that you can do.

Sometimes things are just too messed up for anything to stop the inevitable, but often there is a long road to travel before it gets to that stage. The key to saving a marriage is to recognize early signs of trouble, and act as soon as you can to stop things getting any worse. Here are my three best suggestions that will hopefully help you to put things back on track.

1. Communicate - It may seem obvious, but it always surprises me how little some couples actually talk about what is going on. You both probably know you are having problems, but neither of you has talked to the other about it. The one thing you should not do is avoid the problem, don't stick your head in the sand. Be brave and talk to your partner, tell them you know you are having problems, but tell them you don't want a divorce. Assure them that you want to fix things, and talk about a solution. You could even suggest counseling or other outside help.

2. Turn back time - Remember what it was like when you were first together. All to often couples slip into a routine and shut themselves inside a comfortable cocoon. This cocoon could be the thing that will kill your marriage. You should try and pep things up, maybe relive a vacation or memorable date you had. Surprise each other with an unexpected gift or tickets to a show, it doesn't have to be expensive, little changes in routine will work wonders.

3. Compromise - It is possible that your partner is going through something that they just can't help, problems at work or with their parents or siblings. Whatever it is that may be making them act in ways you find unacceptable, unfortunately sometimes you will just have to let them work through these times, and accept they cant help how they are acting. This will pass as your partner works through the problems they have, it is best just to offer your support and help where needed. Let them know you understand what is going on, tell them what you don't like, but at the same time don't add to their problems, as that could be the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
