The research by bed manufacturer beds Silentnight Beds
, revealed that the added stresses combined with sleepless nights are the cause for a huge 83% rise in the average number of domestic rows between couples.
An average month sees Brit couples argue an average of eight times, the survey has discovered. But in January that figure climbs to an uneasy 14.6 rows a month. And Monday 25 January (the last Monday before pay-day) is expected to see a massive nine out of 10 couples come to blows.
Silentnight Beds polled 2,412 couples across the UK about their take on domestic disharmony and a whopping 72% admitted that they rowed more in January than at any other time of the year.
The short days and long, dark nights of winter also take their toll when it comes to domestic disharmony - making couples feel trapped in their own home with little to look forward to.
Regionally, the fiery Scots are revealed as being the most argumentative of all confessing to squabbling five times a week during January. However the laid-back Welsh let little wind them up as they reveal they only argue once a week.
Silentnight spokesman, Amanda Jones, said: After the Christmas and New Year high, we all often come down to reality with a bump in January. Were back at work, its a long way until payday and were exhausted because were not sleeping properly due to feeling miserable and stressed.
Its interesting to see that Monday 25 January has been pinpointed as the most argumentative day of the year. Wed advise couples to get a good nights sleep the night before to ensure feeling tired and grumpy doesnt contribute to that Doom Day feeling.
