Relieve Stress At Work With These 4 Tips
With ever increasing workloads, deadlines and demanding bosses it is no wonder that stress is becoming a serious issue at work
. Stress is costing a huge amount of money each year in loss of production due to staff being absent from stress related illnesses.
Stress has many physical and emotional symptoms that can begin with tiredness, headaches, indigestion and mood swings. If stress is continuous and left untreated it can result in more serious conditions such as ulcers and high blood pressure. Stress has also a physical side. People who are under stress can become aggressive, hostile and very difficult to work with.
If you are under stress there are many things that you can do yourself to relieve the problem. Here are few ways to get you started:
Have the confidence to say no
Do you have the habit of always saying yes when office colleagues and managers give you more work, even when you have more than enough to do? If this is you then, you need to learn how to say no. You may think you are helping to contribute more by taking on more work however, this will make you less productive and more frustrated.
Get in shape
A great way to deal and cope with stress is to get into shape by taking plenty of exercise and eating a healthy well balanced diet. By having a healthier body and mind you will have more energy and improved concentration to become more focused and productive at work. You can use your free time to go to the gym or even a walk can do wonders for your energy levels.
Devise a system
Many people work long hours however, when those hours are broken down most of them are not being used productively. Therefore, to be more productive plan a daily and weekly schedule. In this schedule include the tasks in order of priority i.e. the most important tasks become your top priority.
A major time waster in the work place is meetings. Many do not need to happen and most of them are badly organised. You need to discipline yourself to be selective with the meetings that you attend. Only select meetings that will help you and where you can make a contribution.
Relaxation
Many workers spend most of the time sitting at their desk without a break from the moment they come in to the office until they leave. Sitting in one position will lead to back and neck strain which makes stress worse. Therefore, get into the habit of taking regular breaks. Take a walk outside or do some stretching. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
