Relieve Your Headaches in 4 Ways
Are you getting the annoying headache pretty often
, especially when you get cooped up in the office all day long? Do you also get tired eyes and feel fatigue as well? If so, your headache may be caused more by the office environment itself than other factors. But wait, before you reach for that painkiller tablet, try these 4 tips first on how to reduce headache, if not eliminate it completely.
1. More Fresh Air Relieves Headache
When your air-conditioned office doesn't allow for good ventilation, the air quality within your office will become poor. It aggravates with the harmful chemicals released from the poorly-maintained air-conditioning system, air fresheners, pesticides and the pollutants already existing in the building. When you inhale these health-damaging substances, how can you not suffer from headache?
The best way you can do to reduce headache is open the office windows regularly to let in fresh air, though this is near impossible in most high-rise office buildings. Alternatively, get out of the buildings at times for a short breather. We can also help improve the air quality by installing air purifiers or / and filters and ensure regular cleaning and servicing of the air-con system in the office.
2. Your Eyes Need to "Breathe" Too
Did you know that when you overuse your eyes, it can trigger headache too? That's because the muscles around your eyes get cramps which will stress the optic nerves connecting to your brain. What you can do to relieve your eyes and headache is try to look into a distance from a high place for 5 minutes after every half an hour of focusing on the computer or documents.
That should help give your eyes a break and reduce your headache. But if the problem persists, I suggest that you check with your optometrist to find out if it's time you need a new pair of specs.
3. Sit Right for Headache Relief
Are you aware that your poor sitting posture may hamper blood circulation, thereby causing headaches. As a rule of thumb, always keep your head aligned with the spine, and the wrists straight and aligned with the forearms. Avoid any habits that could strain your muscles at certain points and induce headache. For example, slouching in the chair, or grip the phone between your shoulder and ear to talk on the phone while your fingers are busy with the keyboard.
4. Relieve Stress to Relieve Headache
Stress, coupled with exhaustion and anxiety, can easily lead to headache or tension in your neck muscles. Though you almost can't avoid this in such a fast-paced working environment, you can actually learn to "spread out" your stress by stopping work for a while to crack some jokes with your colleagues, or enjoy a 10-minute tea break at the pantry. Sometimes, a little distraction does you good, especially in reducing stress and headache.
Keep these 4 tips in mind to help prevent headache instead of trying to relieve it when it strikes. Also, don't forget to hydrate your body well. A properly hydrated body tends to get struck relatively less often. Prevention is better than cure.
