There are creams that may be used but the best drug should be the oral ones as the time of onset is fast. Consulting the doctor is a must especially if pain does not go away after taking all those medicines.
Many diagnostic test can be done to find the root cause of the back pain. This is needed because having back pain doesn't necessarily mean that the cause is solely within the muscles. There could be times wherein the muscles are perfectly fine but the brain sends out signals saying that there's something wrong. hence, these diagnostics are very important.
If the pain is too great for the patient, oral medicines won't enough to relieve him of the pain. If worse comes to worst, surgery might be needed. It just goes to show that at the first sign of back pain, consult a doctor immediately and you just might have rid yourself of the burden of complications.
