You will need to use your bike cleaning brush to scrub the brake areas of your bike's rims, and you will then be ready to rinse everything down with a garden hose on low pressure. You should always wipe everything down immediately to stop smears on the bike's frame from appearing, and you can then polish your bike to keep it cleaner for longer.

Another simple maintenance job which you can do yourself is the fitting of a new bike chain. While this can seem like a difficult job it's actually very simple, you just need to make sure that you have the right materials for the job. You will need a chain tool, some bike lube, a few cloths and possibly even a pair of pliers depending of your bike's brand.

You will need to remove your old chain and can then fit your new chain using a masterlink, although if this isn't possible with your brand of bike you may need to use a chain tool.
