Remember to Follow the Safety Guidelines of a Trampoline

The American Academy of Pediatrics warns parents against the dangers of purchasing trampolines for their backyards. The academy has expressed concerns that are documented from studies that date back to the 1990's. Their concerns over a child's safety is so high that they have issued a statement to parents advising them against purchasing a backyard trampoline or allowing a child to play on a home trampoline. However, this is almost completely due to parents not following the safety guidelines, so following the guidelines will ensure your kids have a safe time on the trampoline.

Although some of the trampolines are equipped with safety nets, most people will not follow the recommended guidelines. The most commonly flaunted rule is the guideline that says to only allow only one child to bounce or play at a time. Based on the information that was reported by both pediatricians and emergency facilities, over half a million children were injured and treated in emergency rooms from 2000 through 2005. These injuries included broken arms and legs from limbs that hit the side rail, head concussions from one child bumping their head with another child, lacerations from landing on an object that was on the ground or a limb hitting the side of the rail, abdominal injuries from children landing on other children as well as multitude of other injuries that occurred while jumping up and down on the trampoline.

Also, the parent must be aware of the moon walk which is another type of trampoline. The moonwalk is a trampoline that a large number of parents rent or purchase for birthday parties and various other children celebrations or activities, it is also considered very dangerous for children. Although these giant inflatable bouncy structures are cute and are very common, parents should be aware of the safety issues that have been reported. When initially viewing the colorful big balloon type forms with a funny character on top, they may appear safe. However, they are designed for many children to bounce up and down all at same time. The host may also allow adults to intermingle with children while they are playing. When this occurs, a higher probability of a child or an adult being hurt increases dramatically and the type of injury that a child may receive may be more serious. Just be vigilant, and treat the trampoline with due care.

Therefore, to prevent or eliminate the injuries that are sustained from bouncy up and down on a backyard trampoline, parents should follow the warning and recommendations that have been provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Trampolines are fun and can be safe when the correct safety considerations are taken.
