Remodel Your Bathroom In The Beach Style

Is there anything so relaxing as sitting on the warm sand of a beloved beach

, listening to the waves roll in and the tide roll out, feeling the sun on your face? I contend that there is not. But there is one place in which you should feel equally at ease: your bathroom. So why not try to make the two one and the same?

Now, I'm not talking about bedecking a single corner of your countertop with a few seashells from the craft store. I am referring to a full-scale remodel that will transform your powder room into an extension of the nearest seashore. But how can this be done, you ask? Let me tell you.

You will want to hire a professional remodeling company to come in and perform the major tasks I am suggesting. Even if you are a "do-it-yourselfer," bathroom remodeling can be tricky and is extremely time-consuming.

If you work full-time, you can't expect to have the spare hours and energy that these changes will require. So, do yourself and your family a favor and bring in a professional company with skilled workers to create the vision you will develop after reading this.

Start from the ground and move upward. For a beach-themed bathroom, the floor should be comprised of tile--not linoleum!--that reflects the color of beach sand, though it should not be a flat beige. Instead, browse your local home improvement store for tile that has a marbled appearance, with darker and lighter shades swirled in.

Next, focus on your walls. The natural choice for an ocean-inspired bathroom would be a shade of blue, but you can change it up or mix colors. For example, you could have a pastel blue for three walls and a deeper hue for the accent wall. Or, you could test out swatches of sea foam or other shades in the green family.

Whatever you choose, make sure you select a high-quality paint. Avoid wallpaper altogether, as it does not hold up well in the bathroom's humid environment. And before you paint, consider hiring an artist to create a mural on one of your walls, or frame a large photo of your family on a beach vacation.

Dark wood cabinets and vanities go best in a beach bathroom, so ask the remodeler for an estimate for just such an implement in your new bathroom. An advantage of investing in high-quality wood cabinets in dark tones is that they match a variety of other themes and will last for years to come.
