Remote Assistance- An Easy Tool for Remote Computer Help

In a scenario where you are in a different part of the world, and you are having problems with your PC and you need computer help. So what would you do? You need help and since you are a layman in computers you can't work along with the tech support guy. Here comes remote assistance through online PC repair expert.

Remote assistance is a tool in windows where one can log into your computer remotely. You just need to grant him access so that he can connect to your pc. Remote assistance was implemented first in Win XP.

So how does this work: The basic criterion, in using remote assistance is you need to have MSN messenger installed on your pc or a Microsoft email client like Outlook Express. The person who is going to help you will send you an invitation link using messenger or email and then you just have to click the link so that he gets access to your pc.

There is of course an advanced way of invitation too, that is by saving it as a file where you save it in a certain location giving it a name for invitation and then specify a time as to how long the invitation is open. It is best to give a password to this for security. The helper needs to inform the person of the password. Then this file can be sent via email or saved in a disc.

One good thing about remote assistance is it can be used via any connection which supports TCP/IP e.g. LAN, WAN, dial in via modem, via the internet.

So how to start remote assistance or where to find remote assistance in your pc?-

Go to control panel > System> Remote Tab> Put a check mark on remote assistance.

Once you check it you will find a remote assistance option in your program list. Click Open it. Choose an option out of the three available.

Use Windows Messenger

Use email

Save invitation as file(advanced)

Once the invitation is sent the person who will help you will be able to see your desktop but will not have the access. He can request access and once you grant it and then only he takes the full access of your pc.

Now once the connection has been made you get options to chat, talk, send a file etc.

There is one disadvantage of remote assistance in windows XP: It doesn't work good with slow connections which has been rectified in Vista and Windows 7.
