Remote Desktop On Tablets

It seems that tablets can be equipped with applications for any use imaginable from

basics like photos, videos, maps, games to editing, conference tools and cloud services. Almost all the brands selling tablets from Apple to Blackberry are advertising their tablets for business needs. However none of them seem to have any satisfactory remote connection feature or application.

Remote access is an integral part of any business activities and network. If tablets were to take this technology serious and provide simple and effective tools for Remote Desktop Access then perhaps businesses would consider buying tablets as an alternative to laptops or workstations. Although recent tablets have made an effort to include remote technology and establish remote access as the norm for business tablets, none of them come close to providing the same functionality, features, protection or advantages that basic Remote Access Software on a laptop can.

Most of the current offerings are in forms of applications developed by third party developers that are quite new to the field and not many businesses would trust third party applications for handling precious documents. Other than that the best performing apps usually provide cloud-access or Remote Access Software from one tablet to another tablet or mobile. Another important factor is that most of these apps and features are not built for heavy duty use, which renders them useless for established companies that require regular and stable services.

The portability factor of a tablet computer is obviously an advantage for SMB's and individuals looking to work efficiently while travelling. If remote connectivity was added as a core feature into these tablets then connecting to our remote computers at work or home and even the computers on the office LAN via tablets and utilizing the tablets business applications would definitely be worthwhile. It is understood that the tablet industry is quite young and inexperienced and as time passes new tablets with better use of current business technology would pop out.

Furthermore, on the software development side, applications for tablet PCs are starting to gain a lot of quality and respect from their users. Some companies have even hired developers in order to create custom apps for tablet PC platforms. Some companies, such as those operating in the telecom field, have developed their own modified versions of the Linux operating system for use on tablets, in order to increase compatibility with their existing network architecture as well as internal programs that they use.

The last question that remains is: will there be one tablet PC that will dominate the market, just like the Windows operating system has dominated PCs for the past 16 years? Will it be hardware that will dominate, or will there be simply a tablet PC OS that will win out resulting in many tablet manufacturers adopting it?
