Get Rid Of Urine Stains In Your Carpets

Whether it is young kids dragging dirt into the house or pets leaving urine stains that seem impossible to get out, this article is for you. So if you have minor stains on your rug instead of calling a professional carpet cleaning company to clean stains you can do it yourself. Depending on the cleaning company that you hire it may cost anywhere from $90 to $250 for someone to come out and clean your carpets professionally. Here are some suggestions on using products to remove the stain on your own.

First try to remove the stain if it is fresh with clear liquid soap mixed with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray a small part of the area and blot it with a white paper towel to see if it will remove the stain. If the stain is caused by something that has a strong odor this may not be the best way to clean the stain because it may clean the visual stain but leave the odor behind. You can also try lemon juice mixed with warm water if you have no carpet cleaning products in your house and use the same method of spraying and blotting with a paper towel.

Another method you can try is to use vinegar and warm water and OxiClean. You need to mix it by using a 10 to 1 ratio of water to vinegar and a scoop of OxiClean. Once mixed use a paper towel or cloth and gently blot the area to remove the stain. You will want to try a small test area before blotting the entire stained area. This solution is also very useful for getting rid of pet urine odors. The smell of vinegar will eventually go away once the rug is fully dry in the area treated.

Just remember to always rinse the area after cleaning. Carpet products can sometimes leave behind residue, which if not removed, can cause problems like the stains returning. You also need to know exactly what type of carpet you have. Carpets can react differently to certain chemicals.

If you have a spot or stain that is just not coming out it is probably better to call a carpet cleaner. It's always better choice to spend the money on a professional than to replace your carpet by fading or discoloring it.
