Repairing Damaged Carpets

Carpets are the most common type of flooring type throughout the world and they are also the most susceptible type to get stained and damaged

. No matter how much you are conscious about its care and maintenance, damage is inevitable. Fire, water, dust, food spillage and there are many other elements that require carpets to be repaired on and off. Natural fibers are prone to breakage while synthetic ones are prone to burn.

There are different ways to repair your carpet. Sometimes there isn't any damage to your carpet actually, but just a reaction to the prevailing home environment, which on change can be repaired.

If the carpet gets stained, remove the stain as much as possible. Absorb and get rid of the liquid using paper towel and blotting paper. Do not rub the area. With a clean cloth, apply and rub gently alcohol or non lanolin or a carpet stain remover.

If the carpet is burned, there is not much you can do with it to repair the burnt piece area. If it is not burnt severely, then the burnt area can be trimmed a little just to minimize the burnt effect. If it is severe and deep, all you need to do is to cut the affected area and replace it with a new patch.

New carpets when installed shed their fabrics for some weeks. This is a natural phenomenon that cannot be avoided, but reduced to some extent. New carpets loose fibers and hence loose the density and softness as well. This can be minimized by daily vacuuming with a soft brush.

Rippling occurs due to humidity and the effect vanishes automatically with the time. If not, try it out using a dehumidifier. Carpet may get damaged due to flooding. Sometimes if the water is clean, the carpet may dry up within 24 hours. If the hours exceed and still the carpet is not dry, a professional should be called. The carpet may get charged due to newer insulation and heating. An air humidifier can discharge the carpet.

If someone is planning for installing carpet in home or in office, carpet tiles are a far better option than the traditional and in use carpeting floorings. They are easier to get repaired and cleaned. They too offer a variety in color and design, allowing you to get your interior dcor done as per your aesthetics and choice.
