Repairing Wood Siding
Have questions about wood siding repair? Don't worry
. Damaged siding cannot always be cured with a coat of paint, but replacing the pieces does not have to be a terribly expensive or difficult task. Here are some helpful tips.
Lumberyards are typically the number one place to search for wood siding. There tends to be a larger selection at lumberyards for this particular need, so shop there first. If you don't see what you need, you can always order what you need from a popular home improvement retailer for a reasonable price.
Removing the siding is the next step. Once your new pieces are in your possession, set them aside and get rid of the damaged sections. Using a pry bar, positioned underneath the ruined piece, push back and forth carefully to loosen the nails. Do this slowly. You can use the old piece to measure and cut the new wood to the proper size.

Nail the new piece with concrete coated nails and caulk the edges to seal it in. Be sure to use caulk that will hold paint, such as acrylic. Allow the caulk to dry and then prime the newly installed area. Once the primer is dry you can paint it using multiple, thin coats.
It is a good idea to paint the entire side, since brand new paint on one small area can look very obvious. In order to hide the new piece and allow it to blend in well, go ahead and paint a new coat on the whole side.
Another great tip is to purchase some extra wood siding for future repairs. This is particularly important if you had a difficult time finding your design initially.
Now that you know how to repair your siding, go ahead and give it a try.
