Replacing And Installing Power Steering Pump Pulleys

. If you want to upgrade your vehicle by adding lightweight pulleys or you want to add chrome puller to add style to your engine, you need to know the process of replacing or installing the power steering pulley. Installing or replacing a power steering pulley is not a complex process. It is very simple and easy to handle.

Directions

1.Lift the front hood and give it a support with the supporting rod.

2.Locate the bolt that attaches the power steering pulley to the power steering pump. Remove the bolt with the help of ratchet.

3.Find the lock bolt which is mostly positioned next to the power steering pump. Remove this bolt with the help of ratchet.

4.Now is the time to remove the tensioner which is located next to the lock bolt. Remove the tensioner as well.

5.With mild force pull the power steering pump back and forth until the belt pops off.

6.Take a power steering pulley remover and guide the pulley remover jaws surrounding the power steering pulley and the bolt at the center of the pulley.

7.Keep fastening the pulley remover with a ratchet or wrench until the pulley comes off the power steering pump.

8.Unfasten the pulley remover and take out the pulley from it.

9.Take a new pulley and fix it on the power steering pump.

10.Take a power steering belt and place it onto the power steering pulley.

11.While tightening the tensioner keep this thing in mind that you do not need deflection in the belt more than half an inch.

12.You can ensure the deflection with the help of ruler by keeping it vertically against the belt. If the belt deflects more than half an inch, it is too loose and if it deflects less than half an inch it means it is too tight. In both the cases you might get damage your power steering pump. Be very precise in adjusting the deflection of the belt.

In the end make sure that everything is installed to its place perfectly and there is no loose bolt or lock left behind to avoid severe damage to your vehicle.

Cautions

-Examine the power steering belt for wear and tear and cracks, if you find any replace the power steering belt with new.

-Wear gloves and safety glasses avoid any damage to your skin.

-Before start your work makes sure that the engine is cool. Otherwise you might have burnt your hand.

-Fasten all the bolts and locks carefully.
