Report On Straightening Without Ruining Hair

Hair straightening is a way to help your hair look sleek

, sexy and gorgeous. But it can do harm to your hair. Unless precautionary measures are taken, it can seriously damage your hair making it dry, frizzy and unmanageable. Once it is damaged, it is difficult to reverse the process. So there are certain things to remember in order to keep your hair healthy.

First of all condition your hair properly. Clean thoroughly with a shampoo and then apply a conditioner. This will help nourish your hair properly and restore the moisture content required for the hair. It also gives protection against the heat of the styling devices.

The hair need to be completely dry before straightening. Wet hair can get burned when straightened. So either use a blow dryer or let the hair dry naturally before you use the iron.

Apply a heat protectant on your hair. A wide variety of heat protecting gels, creams, serums etc are available in the market. They will safeguard your hair from the intense heat of the straightening iron. They absorb the heat of the device and protect hair from the heat. High heat could result in breakage of hair and cause split ends.

Prefer a high quality flat iron that has adjustable temperature setting. Always try to straighten it by setting the lowest temperature possible. Some straightening irons can get dangerously hot, close to 400 degree Fahrenheit. They can literally burn your hair. So try to select a low temperature setting best suited for your hair type. This can only be done by trail and error process. Start testing from the lowest temperature possible and gradually increase the heat. Using the iron at low temperature also increase its life.

The size of the flat iron plate is also an important factor to be considered. Even though it is tempting to purchase the biggest one, it actually wont be effective on your hair. The size of the plate should depend upon the length, thickness of your hair. For example, if you have short, thin hair, then an iron with plate thickness of 1 inch will be pretty good.
