Resistance Training Exercises For Better Health
The most common ways to get in shape are by participating in various physical activities or sports
. Some of the most popular forms of exercise include yoga, pilates, jogging, aerobics, kickboxing, dancing, and walking. Another way to get fit is through resistance training; it's simple, and involves inexpensive equipment.
Resistance training involves contracting a muscle group against the force of resistance; it builds strength and improves your overall health. This can involve using your own weight to create resistance, using an elastic band, or free weights.
Elastic bands are favored by many because they are inexpensive, lightweight, and incredibly versatile; they are great for toning. Most people who do resistance training want toned muscles, so this is an appealing piece of equipment.
The combination of this training along with aerobic exercise is referred to as circuit training. This will not only help tone your muscles, but also provide cardiovascular benefits as well. It involves doing a series of exercises consecutively to keep the heart rate up, while at the same time building strength.
Upper Body
There are tons of upper body exercises you can do with weights or resistance bands. You can do a chest press, butterflies, tricep extensions, bicep curls, shoulder presses, back rows, and so on. You can do several variations of each exercise. You can even do pushups on the knees, which will strengthen your triceps, shoulders, and chest.
Lower Body
Quite honestly, equipment is not even needed for the lower body. You can do squats, lunges, calf raises, using your own body weight. You can use elastic bands or weights if you want more resistance, but it's not really necessary. Hip adductors and abductors are good exercises to use with the bands.
Core
We can't forget about the core. It's our powerhouse, and entails the entire trunk region from front to back. So this means more than just having strong abdominals; it also includes the pelvic muscles, glutes, and lower back. We use our core throughout the course of the day to maintain good posture and to perform certain tasks. Athletes use their core quite often. For instance, a tennis player hitting a ball uses their core. A strong core enhances performance and helps prevent injury.
Leg raises are good for the lower abs, and situps can work all ab muscles. Supermans are great for the abs, lower and upper back. There is more than one way to do it, and it's one of the best for working the core.
