Resolution And Blank Screen Issues After Installing Mac Os X 10.6.3
With the release of Mac OS X 10.6.3 update, several Mac users have reported a number of pre- and post- installation problems
. If the installation doesn't take place, the way expected, it often requires Mac Recovery solutions to deal with certain issues. Here, we'll discuss one such issue.
After you install Mac OS X 10.6.3 update, chances are that you may observe some graphics-related problems. More specifically, you might fail to get external monitors to work or in some cases, show the native resolution. When you connect and detect the monitor, it shows the text and images as blurry and larger.
Though no actual fix has been determined yet, you can try the following solutions to recover from these problems:
Try resetting the PRAM. The system's PRAM holds various display settings, so resetting it can fix problems including when your computer doesn't start up properly.
If resetting PRAM doesn't work, try booting the computer in Safe mode and running Disk Utility to fix permissions. You can also clean the boot cache using a specific application.
Adapter incompatibility might be creating the issue. If your monitor supports VGA and you use DisplayPort to DVI adapter, you should replace it with DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
Go to /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/ folder and delete the display overrides, without removing them from Trash. Restart the computer and check if the problem goes away. If the issue no longer exists, you can empty the Trash or, restore the deleted overrides to the original location.
Go to /Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/ and username/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folders and delete com.apple.windowserver.plist and com.apple.windowserver.NUMBER.plist files respectively. If this resolves your issue after restarting the computer, windowserver preferences corruption was the issue.
Run a full permissions fix, boot in Safe mode and apply 10.6.3 'Combo' update.
If a valid 10.6.2 backup exists, restore to the backup. If the update is required, try updating again, but with the Combo update in Safe mode. In case no suitable data backup is available, you can use a
Mac File Recovery software to recover lost files and folders. Mac Recovery software can recover lost data, irrespective of the cause.
For best results, it is recommended to use an application called Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery software. This
Mac Disk Recovery utility supports Mac OS X 10.6.x, 10.5.x, 10.4.x, and 10.3.9 and can recover almost all file types.
