Resolve Performance Issues In Outlook 2007

Why most of the users of Outlook 2007 complain about its performance

? From performance issues we are trying to enlighten the sluggishness of Outlook that is Outlook takes more time in launching, moving emails from one folder to another, embedding attachments in emails, sending / receiving emails, etc. Do people start facing performance issues from the first day of Outlook installation and configuration? Absolutely not, Outlook 2007 starts creating performance issue when the size of PST file crosses 2 GB and keep on increasing day by day.

In case, an Outlook user complains about its slow performance on the very first day of its installation then this may be due to insufficient hardware configuration. For example, cache memory is less than the cache memory required to perform Outlook better. If this is the case then increasing RAM will resolve the problem.

In another case where Outlook performance gets reduced after sometime of its installation and use then the only reason behind that is the size of PST file. Outlook takes more time to fetch data from large PST file; therefore, the size of the PST puts direct impact on its performance. As the PST grows, Outlook starts showing the sign of its sluggishness. Therefore, the size of PST should be managed regularly so that it will not cross more than 1 GB, if you want Outlook 2007 to run fast. You can manage the size of PST by considering the following facts:

1. Delete large attachments from emails you receive and save those attachments on your computer for further use. Attachments comprise a big part of PST; therefore, deleting attachments should be your first step towards reducing PST size.

2. Keep deleting unwanted emails.

3. Empty the Deleted Items folder on regular basis.

4. Empty the Sent items folder on regular basis.

5. Compact the PST file as soon as you start facing slow performance of Outlook. Compacting PST file is required to free up the extra space available in the PST file.

6. Split PST into individual PST files when the PST has already grown to 4 GB or more.

Here, you might be thinking that how a PST can be split into individual PST files. You cannot split PST into small PST files manually. You need a third party split PST tool for this purpose.

Split PST Tool is an effective, reliable, and output-driven tool, which helps you break large PST files in to several PST files. The software provides you various options to split PST. For example, you can split PST based on file size, folder name, date, etc. The software supports all latest versions of MS Outlook, such as Outlook 2000, 2002 (XP), 2003, 2007, and 2010.
