When selling a product, a lot of beginners make the error of start with developing a product

, and afterwards trying to find a marketplace for it. The process should, of course, be reversed.

Find a market first that is willing to spend money, after that discover what they want and in the end give it to them.

It's certainly easier said than done, still there are many places online where you can do your market research for free. They have done most of the work for you already. You plainly need to know the right places and what to do to connect all the dots.

Read on and I will discover some websites I visit when I need an idea.

Google Zeitgeist

To begin with, I look out for the hot search trends at Google Zeitgeist service. When I'm targeting the US market, I'll select the "U.S. Zeitgeist" if not I will choose "Zeitgeist Around the World." For now I am merely looking for ideas.

If I see that a particular topic is hot, I'll write it down and look at more targeted sub-niches afterwards at specialized services (which I will you shortly).

Lycos Top 50 - http://50.lycos.com

Another website very much alike Google Zeitgeist is Lycos Top 50, where I'll look for the recent trends and look for recent topics to research.

Yahoo! Buzz - http://buzz.yahoo.com

Be sure to check out Yahoo! Buzz for ideas

eHow -http://www.ehow.com

This is an online community which provide its visitors, the ability to research, share, and discuss answers and tips for jobs and projects. Every day there is "Today's Top How To".

MyGoals.com - http://www.mygoals.com

Discover what are others' people goals - maybe you could help them.

eBay Pulse - http://pulse.ebay.com

Ebay Pulse is a quality place to begin searching at sub niches. What I'll do is firstly select the category, after that search for profitable sub-niches by choosing a sub-category.

You'll have the most success if you are as specific as possible with the selection.

Also, I'll always check the largest stores as well to see what they're currently selling. There should be a reason they are the largest stores. They certainly know their business.

You can get hundreds of ideas just from these sites. Good luck!
