During the month of May there have been many exciting activities, below are just a taster.
An elegant afternoon was had by all, for residents at an Alvechurch care home when their dining room was transformed into a Ritz-style tea room.
Staff at Grosvenor House Care Home, in Aqueduct Lane, Coopers Hill, put on the Ritz on Tuesday 24th May as a special treat for residents.
Harpist Meredith McCraken visited to provide soothing background music while residents enjoyed their afternoon refreshments and staff at the home, owned by Alpha Care Homes served up afternoon tea dressed in traditional Ritz-style aprons and hats.
Grosvenor House manager Mark Brunner said: The prestigious London hotel is famed for its afternoon tea and we thought our residents would enjoy the experience.
The dining room was transformed with fresh flowers and crisp white table-cloths, and we dressed up to serve up the delicious afternoon treats. We dished up cakes and cucumber sandwiches with their crusts cut off. Our residents really enjoyed the event and especially hearing music from harpist Meredith McCracken, who had never played here before. It was a lovely afternoon.
Also this month, Dancing queen Ada celebrated a century
A Great Wyrley resident who had a passion for dancing in her youth celebrated a century on 8th May.
Ada Pearce, of Waters Edge Care Home, marked her 100th birthday on Tuesday May 8th and staff at Waters Edge, owned by Alpha Care Homes, all ensured Ada was treated like royalty on her special milestone day. They were busy making Ada a special birthday throne to sit on complete with her own tiara. The home was also be decorated with banners and balloons and various activities took place throughout the afternoon.
Ada also had 100 cards to open on her big day from friends, family, fellow residents and staff.
Ada, who has lived at the home since October last year, formerly ran a popular fish and chip shop in Great Wyrley, on the Walsall Road. She spent her war years in service in Erdington.
She has a passion for music and used to enjoy dancing once winning first prize at a Queens Hall competition. Ada has one daughter, Jean, and one grandson, Kevin.
Waters Edge activities coordinator Jenny Cowley said: We made Adas birthday one fit for a queen. She got her hair done especially and dressed as a queen for her party.
Ada is a very feisty character and always enjoys joining in with the activities we provide here at Waters Edge.
She really enjoyed her special day and owes reaching 100 due to having a lovely family.
