You can purchase electric or manual powered awnings in a wide variety of materials and sizes. Some patios span the entire width of a home and therefore would need numerous umbrellas in order to provide shade for a large group of people. Awnings can be purchased to span this width allowing everyone to enjoy the outdoors.

The cost of these is remarkably more than any umbrella. They are less mobile than umbrellas but generally last many years past the life span of an umbrella. There is no need to pick up the entire assembly and store it through the winter either. Since everything is self contained, they can remain in position and out of the weather.

Finding the right awning for your needs may be somewhat mind boggling when faced with the large variety available. You should consider the size you need, the materials you want, whether you want a manual or electronic version and have a spending budget in mind. Price will be determined by all of these aspects of the awning.

Installing your own is not recommended for various reasons. They must be installed properly so that they operate the way they are intended and so that no damage is done to the unit. This also insures that there will not be major maintenance or repairs later. Installation usually is included in the cost but if not, the extra you will pay will be well worth your investment in terms of durability.

When considering maintenance that may be needed for awnings, there is no other choice but retractable units. There is very little to do to keep these shelters looking new and help the last for years. Only seasonal oiling or greasing is necessary to keep them in proper working order.
