Reversing Cameras Most Likely To Become Standard In The Near Future

Although automakers as well as consumers fail to consider reversing cameras in their vehicles

, the device still remains fixed on expensive options lists probably because it was eyed as a standard for all model vehicles in the next generation.

In a recent study conducted by the IAG Research for the NRMA Rear Visibility study, it was concluded that vehicles fitted with reversing cameras are significantly safer than those without the said device.

In the study, the SUV had the highest rating from the NRMA.

The SUVs great achievement probably drove the Mitsubishi to have its vehicle models installed with reversing cameras. The said automaker made reversing cameras as a standard on all but the entry-level edition. Mitsubishi spokesperson, Lenore Fletcher said that the companys decision to make reversing camera as an option in their cheapest vehicle model was driven by price since Mitsubishis entry level vehicles are quite price sensitive. Therefore, the automaker has to work hard to keep the models at the long run.

Mitsubishi and Kia both agreed that reversing cameras are most likely to become standard in the near future.

Kia spokesperson said that in the next generation, every car will have the device even though some automakers are going in the opposite direction.

BMW and Volkswagen actually removed reversing cameras from their standard equipment lists on their vehicle models. Both automakers shifted to multi-view cameras claiming that the same is more advanced, however optional.

Audi on the other hand does not also consider fitting reversing cameras in its vehicles claiming that only 11.3% of its customers prefer the option.

Several companies admitted that they only offer reversing cameras as part of pricey packages of options.

Therefore, the IAG Research head, Robert McDonald reminded motorists that all vehicles have rear visibility problems. McDonald added that all vehicles have blind spots.

The studys result revealed that it is significant for all drivers to take extra care and proper precautions when reversing. Even though some automakers take Reversing camera as an option, people must realize its significant role in saving lives. Imagine a little cost may save hundreds of lives of innocent children in driveways.
