Revolutions By Colour

Colour revolutions was a term first used by journalists, in reference to associated movements that evolved in numerous societies in the early 2000s, being mostly nonviolent resistance by nature.

The colour revolutions are widely known for their vital role in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and particularly student activists, in organizing creative non-violent resistance against regimes seen as corrupt and/or authoritarian. They demonstrated for democracy and created strong pressure for change.

In 2003 the Rose Revolution, Georgia disputed an election

The Orange Revolution in Ukraine against rose because of a disputed presidential election

Being more violent the Tulip (or Pink) Revolution followed a disputed parliamentary election in 2005

In 2005 a Cedar Revolution in Lebanon, followed the assassination of opposition leader, Rafik Hariri

Kuwait saw the Blue Revolution in 2005, in support of winning the vote for women. Many voices have disputed the naming of this revolution, because it did not call for a regime change

Through the Purple Revolution in 2005 democracy was achieved in Iraq

The 2009 Iranian Green Revolution was an election protest, but it failed to bring any change of regime

The 2010-2011 the Jasmine Revolution saw the Tunisian president usurped

Egypt President Mubarak was forced to step down in the Lotus Revolution.

So far the Arab Wave Of Reform, which has plunged through the Arab League of Nations has not been given colour names individually, or collectively, apart from Tunisia and Egypt.

Perhaps the experts will claim Libya's revolution red, being the bloodiest revolution of all in the current surge of Arab revolutions.
