Rhinoplasty: Be Aware Of The Recovery Period

The first day after the rhinoplasty, you should lie down as much as possible and keep your head elevated. You can expect the nasal area to be swollen, bruised, and in pain, but you will get some pain medication to help manage the discomfort. You will likely notice the swelling and bruising to go down after about three days, and can speed this along with ice packs held to your face. However, you will still have a little bruising, swelling, and some discomfort for up to three weeks.

Do not be alarmed if you notice bleeding after your rhinoplasty, as this is normal for the first few days. Not surprisingly, you should avoid any activities in which your nose may be hit or jostled, and you are not supposed to blow your nose for at least a week. Your head should stay elevated for as long as possible, which means no leaning down or you may notice an increase in bleeding.

Your stitches should be taken out after one to two weeks, and you can usually go back to work after about a week. However, you may want to take a little more time off work just in case you have any complications. You will probably not feel well enough to return to your normal routine for at least a week, and sometimes it is nice to rest a little extra after the surgery. You should also know that you will not be able to see the results you want for a few months since there will still be a little swelling.
