Rhinoplasty: When To Consider The Procedure
Rhinoplasty is one of the oldest forms of cosmetic procedures that there are
. People have been getting their noses fixed in one way or another since ancient times. Today, of course, the procedures done to improve the look, or in some cases the health, of the nose are much safer and more effective than they used to be. If you're thinking about having a procedure done to improve your nose, there are a few things to consider.
Is it Really Necessary?
If your nose has been damaged, or has some type of congenital defect, then your reasons for wanting rhinoplasty are obvious and understandable. If you just don't like the way your nose looks, however, and it's healthy otherwise, then you might want to take some time to think about it. What you may see as an unsightly flaw on your face may not look bad at all to others.
Sometimes it has a lot to do with your overall self image. Talk with friends who will be honest with you, and do some soul-searching on how you've been feeling about yourself lately. If you take the time to really examine your motives, then still decide on the procedure, you'll be able to feel more confident with your decision.
Finding a Cosmetic Surgeon
If you have a family doctor, ask him or her for a recommendation on a cosmetic surgeon to do your rhinoplasty procedure. There are also usually organizations in every state that list cosmetic surgeons, and have information on them such as years in practice and certifications. When you find one that you might be interested in, call and ask questions, such as if they offer free consultations and how much they charge for procedures.
Your Part in Healing
After you have your rhinoplasty, you want to make sure that you take an active role in the healing process. Your doctor doesn't give you post-procedure instructions just for fun; they are to help you heal as quickly and efficiently as possible. Follow the instructions, take your pain medication if you need it, and check with your surgeon if you think something doesn't feel right.
Having a rhinoplasty procedure can be a great way to boost your self-esteem, or make you feel much better if your nose has been damaged or has a defect such as a deviated septum. Make sure your decision is a sound one, choose the right surgeon to do the job, follow all post-procedure instructions, and you should do just fine.
