Rhinos Set To Stay In Chester Until September 12th.

Currently Chester is being taken over by Rhino Mania

. Rhino Mania is an art event which has been designed in order to raise money for a charity supporting Rhinos. The rhinos have been present in Chester since the 5th of July and are set to stay until the 16th September. There are sixty two different rhinos placed throughout Chester city.

The Chester Renaissance group are working closely with Wild in Art to coordinate the event and several local businesses have signed up to help support the exhibition.

The exhibition will help to celebrate the cultural identity and importance of the Roman city and hopefully draw in a lot of tourists. Local school children are set to create a further 120 mini rhinos to place around the city.

Rhinos are now worryingly, on the endangered species list. Chester zoo is lucky enough to be home to nine of them. The Rhino Mania event is hoping to support lots of Black Rhinos by contributing to the Black Rhino Field Conservation. Chester zoo helps to manage this charity.

The rhinos are all dotted about throughout the city and beyond. There is even a rhino at Cheshire Oaks shopping complex in Ellesmere Port. Rhinos are also present in Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston stations.

Fibreglass is the materials that each of the rhinos are made out of before they are painted in the designs created by the artists involved in the project. They are each painted with a protective coating so they are not damaged by the unpredictable weather. The rhinos each weigh in at 60kg and are 5 feet tall and 6 feet long. Amateur and professional artists from in and around Chester designed them.

When the rhinos are collected up on the 12th of September they will be taken to auction. 75% of the money made from the sale will then be donated to the Black Rhino Field Conservation and local charity the hospice of the Good Shepherd. The rest of the money will hopefully cover the cost of the event.
