Ricky Gervais Tickets - Ricky Gervais Juggles Many Projects
The man behind one of America's favorite television shows is emerging as a multi-talented entertainment mogul
. His name is Ricky Gervais, and while he is well-known in his home country of Britain, he is just beginning to make his mark here in the States. His rise to fame was buoyed by the success of his show The Office. He was part of the original version of the show in the U.K. Not only did he play the regional manager (the part played by Steve Carell in the U.S. version), he created, wrote and directed the show with Stephen Merchant. Versions in other countries have become just as popular as Gervais' original creations. Through just this creation, he has won Golden Globe, Emmy, Writers Guild of America, Peabody and British Comedy Awards, among others.
With The Office smoothly sailing along, Gervais has been free to take on many other projects, which means he is slowly building an entertainment empire. He has an animated show called The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO, and the network recently revealed it had renewed the show for another season. Gervais teams with Steven Merchant and Karl Pilkington on the show. He also released a new film, Cemetery Junction, in the U.K. in the spring of 2010. Cemetery Junction stretches Gervais-who was the writer and director on the film with Merchant-as comedy is secondary in this coming-of-age drama. In 2009, he introduced American audiences to his film career by writing, directing and starring in The Invention of Lying with stars like Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill and Tina Fey.
That doesn't mean that he is leaving his television career behind, though. He recently appeared as a guest judge on Jerry Seinfeld's new show The Marriage Ref along with Larry David and Madonna. The show's format shows real feuding couples give both sides of the argument with celebrities weighing in on a winner and a loser.
Gervais has also earned the right to speak into the U.S. television scene, and the San Francisco Gate reported he predicted fellow Brit Jamie Oliver's new show would fail. Oliver is a chef who will have a show promoting healthy eating. Gervais said that Americans already know what is making them fat, so they won't take to the show. He explained, "They know, so that so if you go, 'Those pies are fattening,' they're not going, 'Oh really? I thought it was the jogging.' Fat people don't get fat behind their own backs. ... They know why they're fat and they like it."
The big screen and small screen aren't the only places to experience the hilarity that is Ricky Gervais. He has also booked many stand-up dates around the country. He seems to have pretty high standards in where he will do standup, as the BBC revealed that Gervais turned down a one-million pound offer to perform at a bank in Hong Kong because of the distance. He has many dates in the U.K. and the States, and fans can find Ricky Gervais tickets online.
