When you are riding, clothes wear is vital. The amount of effort that you put into its selection can be critical to your level of enjoyment, comfort and safety. It pays to think about your equestrian clothing before you plan any significant activities with your horse. Many people who are just starting out simply do not know what to expect. They may have seen other people riding, viewed pictures or videos of various events or competitions and sometimes wonder whether they need to go "as far as that" when it comes to their clothing selections.

Remember that when you set out on a journey, it is often you and the horse against the elements. We all know how changeable the weather can be around here. This is a very complex area by itself and quite apart from the equipment you will need in order to physically ride the horse itself. Your horse will take quite a lot of looking after. Its comfort, safety and health, especially when it comes to its housing quarters, will need a lot of your attention.

As far as diet and health are concerned, consult an expert in the field to make sure that you have all the necessary dietary supplements and the correct mix of various feeds for your specific animal.

Get all your grooming supplies ready and be prepared for a lot of work here as well. You will need combs, brushes, picks, towels and please understand that you have to exercise considerable care whenever you are around a horse, especially when grooming. If you're not extremely familiar with the animal, remember that they can spook very easily and will kick back with tremendous force if they feel in the least bit threatened. You don't want to be in the way!
