It is best to start off with a "double taper dry line" especially for beginners, it will glide through the rod easier with less tangles. Focus on the back cast it is what will ensure a good forward shooting cast. Allow the line enough time to get behind you before you start your forward cast.
In windy conditions you need to consider the cast that is right for you. Roll casting can the best type of casting in windy conditions. Tilt the rod slightly away from the body, bring the rod to one o'clock position keeping the line behind the rod to form an arc. Bring the rod sharply to the 9:30 position and stop. This motion will roll the line forward. If the line does not straighten out apply a little more force on the next cast.
A false cast can also be applied when river tout fishing. This is typically used to change the direction of a cast. What you do is cast forward not allowing the line enough to touch the water before you back cast and cast forward again to change the location of the first cast.
Be sure to maintain your fishing gear by keeping the line clean of trash and dress it occasionally to help maintain its floatability.
