Rivet Tools And Learning How To Use Them At Home
A rivet tool is used when connecting different pieces of metal sheets is not possible
through an ordinary hammer; or the other end of the surface is inaccessible. It used when more precise force is required and the work is to be performed in hostile conditions. A rivet tool is either pneumatic or air powered and popularly known as rivet gun. It is used in almost all industrial applications such as aircraft, shipping, car and other automobile industry.
Rivet tools are portable and mostly hand handled, but some of them could be larger in size and are CNG operated. It comprises of a rivet holding head, a knob or regulator and a throttle valve. Once the trigger is pressed, it activates the valve and the air is propelled through the head that compresses the piston in the valve to release the air. Once the rivet is forced through the metal, the backer buck comes in action and compresses the back side of the rivet allowing it to splay against the metal. The rivet toll automatically uploads with another rivet and the worker keeps repeating the process connecting the two surfaces tightly and firmly.
Instruction on How to Use a Rivet Tool
Blind rivet tools are widely used in repair a house or manually fixing two sheets or planks. It can be used by following simple instructions:
All you need is a drill, a drill bit of 1/8 or the size you want, some blind rivets of 1/8 or the size you want, a blind rivet gun, two aluminum or steel sheets, clamps and a garage or open workplace.
The first step is to attach the drill bit of 1/8 to the drill. The second step is to place one sheet on the other and point out the place where youd like them joined. Now use clamp and hold the sheets tightly fixed. The next what you do is drill a hole through the sheets. As the next step, insert the long end of a blind rivet into the rivet tool or what we call it rivet gun. The next, you place it inside the hole and press the trigger of the gun a few times until you hear a sort of small explosion. This ends the process and the two sheets are tightly fixed together.
While it may sound pretty easy to use, one should be very carful about using a rivet tool. According to an estimate over 500,000 children across the US get seriously injured while using them. It should not be used without fully understanding its functions and once used; it should be kept inside a locked place or a toolbox. If you want your child to use it, you should give him proper training and supervise him for a couple of days.
