Road Trip Checklist

Every year, millions of Americans take to the road either on business trips or vacation

. Along the way, many of us will pass a stranded or broken down vehicle either parked on the side of the road or being worked on. If certain things were packed or checked before leaving the house, many of these unfortunate mishaps could be avoided. Here are a few things every road tripper needs to have in their vehicle before they strike out:

1. Road flares- if you have to pull over at night, you want people to be able to see you long before they run up on you.

2. Tire plugs

3. Flashlight

4. AAA membership-This is probably the best deal on the market for travelers. For as little as $40 a year, you can call AAA up whenever you have car trouble and help will be sent to you.

5. Portable air compressor-These inexpensive items can be bought at Wal-Mart for as little as $25.

6. Road map

7. Socket set

8. Car Jack

9. Spare tire (in good condition)

10. 2 gallons of water or anti-freeze in case you overheat.

11. Extra fuses

12. First Aid kit.

Along with these items to take along with you, check your car for things like water level, tire tread, knots or nails in tires, blinkers, headlights, and brakes before you leave. If you dont have a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle, pack a set of tire chains if traveling in the winter or at high elevations.
