If you have tired of hopping a plane, being stuck in a flight queue and taking forever to get your bags back

, then why not try going on a driving holiday to Europe this autumn?

It's one of the best ways to experience the culture, you won't miss the scenery by sitting in a plane, and you will get to sample local cuisines that you may have otherwise missed.

There are some points to bear in mind though:

Research the route that you plan to take. The internet is a wonderful thing and you may find that others have driven that way and have recommendations of where to stay or eat, or maybe some scenic views slightly off the beaten track.

Make sure that you have a schedule so you get to see all the places you want to visit.

Think about whether you want to take your own car or rent one. Consider the costs, and if you have money to burn, rent a convertible for a once in a lifetime trip.

If you are taking your own car, check its condition. Have it serviced, fill up the liquids and generally make sure that it is in a state where you would be happy driving it around. Make sure you have a boot full of tools in case any repairs need to be done, and if you have children, come equipped with enough stuff to keep them entertained for a really long period of time.

If you are planning on arranging a road trip for your holiday this year, make sure you have valid Car Insurance so that you are legally able to drive in Europe, as a day in the police station will ruin any trip.
