This past weekend as I was driving home I saw a terrible accident between a car and
a bicycle rider and it got me thinking about how dangerous the roadways are now a days. I don't know about you but it seems to me that everyone time I am out driving I see an accident. The reasoning for this has to be that there are more cars on the road as well as people being in a rush to get some where that they no longer take the necessary precautions to be safe. When it comes to making our roadways safe for everyone, people need to make sure they follow the laws put in place and be considerate of others out there. When it comes to make the roadways safer, here are some tips.
Let's start with the bicycle accident I saw this weekend. When it comes to cars on the roadway they need to make sure they are aware of bicycle riders and give them there space. If there is a bike lane where you are driving make sure to not drive in it as it's there for bicycles. Also bicycle riders need to make sure that they abide by the laws as well. I've seen some cyclists weaving in and out of traffic and that is extremely dangerous. If there are bike lanes stick in them and make sure you ride your bike safely. Another thing we can do to keep the roadways safe is to not tail drivers in front of you. You should be giving the car in front of you 2 car lengths. I can speak from experience that being right on top of the bumper won't make the car in front of you drive faster. If anything it could lead to a potential accident. A third way we can help improve the safety on the roadways is to make sure everyone follows the speed limit. I can't tell you how many cars I've personally seen going 30 to 40mph over the speed limit. When people are speeding there is an increase in the probability that you will get into an accident. Abide by the speed limit so you can keep yourself as well as others safe on the roadways. A final thing is to make sure you don't drink and drive. Not only do you not want to get a DUI, by driving while drunk can also lead to serious accidents that hurt yourselves as well as others on the road.
With there being so many cars, bicycles and pedestrians it really makes it necessary for everyone to be safe and abide by the laws in place so there are no potential accidents and injuries.
