Traffic wardens are always lurking around, trying to catch us that split second after the parking runs out, while we leg it back to the car to add some funds.
And it's worrying to find the new technology in the hands of the traffic warden, causing them to be nicknamed the "robowarden". The human traffic warden is equipped with a five hundred pound head mounted digital video camera which is designed to trap motorists who are parked illegally. The hand held computer part of the technology logs into the DVLA and registers the details, providing all the information the warden needs, and he can then print off a ticket.
The councils are claiming that the system provides more information when the ticket is generated, meaning that when people appeal against their penalties the localities have more information about the case, including photos.
Councils who already make millions of pounds in revenue from motorists are investing in the expensive technology to really cash in on our perils.
The devices can also be used to record any disagreements that are had if the car owner comes back when the ticket is being generated meaning that any abuse that the warden receives is also recorded.
Bog Brother Watch, the campaign group said
"This type of surveillance is both intrusive and unfair. Our local council's officials should stop pretending to be James Bond."
The councils have responded that the hand held computers are reading the licence plates and therefore the machinery will minimise the amount of incorrect tickets issued.
