Rocket Japanese is a popular Japanese learning program. Does it really work?

WHAT'S INSIDE ROCKET JAPANESE?

Rocket Japanese is a software system for download or as a set of CDs. Inside you will find audio recordings, special software games, videos, and more. In addition, you are given access to the "Learning Lounge" where you can test your skills, and connect with other students and teachers.

The basic approach is to teach Japanese by Visual Association. You learned your mother tongue by visual association. You HEARD a word and SAW its meaning at the same time. In this manner you effortlessly and swiftly picked up the meanings of words. Rocket Japanese tries to duplicate this process with the use of software, audio, and video.

DOES IT REALLY WORK?

IF you are ready to work with the program in a consistent way, Rocket Japanese can be extremely powerful. Ideally, you should try to work with the material for a little time each day (30min to 1hr at least). The lessons are designed to build on each other. Therefore, being consistent is very important.

Picking up a new language is much like learning to ride a bike. For the first little while you might think that you aren't getting anywhere. If you persist, however, you will hit a point where things suddenly come together. You will find yourself creating sentences without effort and picking up most of the words in the audio recordings.

You can then add more vocabulary and advanced grammar to your repertoire.

IS IT FOR EVERYONE?

Some people find it difficult to focus unless there is some outside pressure such as an upcoming "exam" or an instructor checking their "homework".

Rocket Japanese is a self-paced approach. It is very powerful but you must provide the follow-through yourself

If you feel you need the pressure of a classroom setting in order to take action, look into a class at a local college. Keep in mind that classroom instruction will cost much more and will take longer.
