The beaches along Murcia are simply outstanding beauty

. The Murcia area is host to many beaches of wonderful warm clear waters including the Mar Menor, Europes largest lagoon. Due to the Mar Menor lagoon being so shallow at a depth of only 7 metres at its deepest point, it means during the summer the water becomes very warm. Swimming during the evenings is a possibility and with miles of sandy beaches that are mostly blue flag, theres enough room for everyone.

As well as Europes largest lagoon, there are numerous stunning beaches along the Costa Calida. A brief overview of these beaches is shown below for your information:

Lo Pagan has 2 sandy beaches being separated by a fishing harbour and marina. The long promenade covers both the rear of both beaches at Lo Pagan and join with Santiago de la Ribera.

Santiago de la Ribera features a fantastic beach with a ferry that travels across the Mar Menor every 2 hours; taking you to the Tomas Maestre Marina situated on the La Manga Strip.

Next along the coast are the airport and the military airfield of San Javier (Murcia). The beach here is restricted access.

Los Alcazares is the largest resort town on the Mar Menor featuring a promenade stretching from the airport all the way to the southern end. With a promenade greater than 4km long, there are several bars and restaurants along the beach for refreshments.

Continuing south, 4 more villages also offer beaches; Los Urrutias, Los Nietos, Mar de Crystal and Playa Honda. All of these villages have a sandy beach with most offering a marina. During the summer the beaches are host to Spanish tourists, but out of season are relatively quiet.

Along the Costa Calida, theres more than bathing in the sun to do. Murcia has become the perfect place for all those who enjoy water sports.
