Hospital in Boston has revealed that the number of drug and alcohol problems diagnosed by the physicians increased by almost 70 percent between 2001 and 2009. The study has used the information from two national surveys of doctors visit which estimated that the number of visits involving drug and alcohol abuse or addiction has risen from 10.6 million between 2001 and 2003 to 18 million between 2007 and 2009.

It is discovered that around 22.5 million people are dependent on alcohol or drug as per the studies carried on by the Franks team.
