Role Of Enzymes To Promote Good Health
Enzymes are chemical substances that are instrumental for metabolic activities within the organism
. Each functional unit requires some sort of energy to perform its function and enzymes provide this energy. It is essential for all, as it offers energy for the successful completion of all kinds of biological functions. They can have molecular weights ranging from about 10,000 to over 1 million. A small number of these are not proteins, but consist of small catalytic RNA molecules. Often, these are multi protein complexes made up of a number of individual protein subunits. It brings about reactionsthatarenecessary for the sustenance of life. It multiplies quickly at the normal environmental temperature. They often increase therate ofachemical reactionbetween 10 and 20 milliontimes what the speed of reaction would be when left uncatalyzed (at a given temperature).
Different types of these chemical substances are:
Liver enzymes: Chemical substances are generated by the liver and are then released into the blood stream. This is used to assess liver function.
Cardiac enzymes: These chemical substances are capable of increasing the biochemical processes in the cardiac muscle. If there is an abnormal level of these it leads to heart attack or cardiac arrest.
Restriction enzymes: These substances split the DNA at some specific locations.
Metabolic enzymes: These chemical substances are protein based and they promote changes in the body.
Digestive enzymes: They speed up the cycle of breaking huge food particles into smaller units. This is then absorbed into the cells.
It is these chemical substances that breaks down the food molecules and absorbs the nutrients present in them. However, this is not present in the processed and fast food that city dwellers often eat. These city dwellers often experience digestion problems and are deprived of the essential nutrients.
They are present naturally in fresh greens and grains that you eat every day. Fruits, vegetables or salads are known to have them in abundance. It is also found in unboiled food and unpasteurised milk. It is seen in mothers breast milk and is hence important to feed the child in order to provide all the essential nutrients required for the growth of the baby.
These enzymes begin the process of digestion which eliminates the stress in the body.
It is known that the average person can not produce enough digestive enzymes to effectively digest and absorb the required nutrition due to bad eating habits. Fast and processed food has no such digestive elements in them and hence lead stomach problems.
