. These roller conveyors are available in different types and models to fit an industry's particular needs and requirements. Different models are designed for different applications that will speed up the process in product manufacturing and also in distribution centers.

Types of Conveyors and their uses

Generally, there are three types of roller conveyors - the gravity roller conveyors, powered conveyors and the sorting conveyors. These types also have models that are used in different applications in different industries. Gravity conveyors are free flowing and are mostly used in a push or in a level application in order to facilitate movement of the products. They can be set in a declining position so that the products will flow from a higher elevation. The two most popular model of this type of conveyor are those that have a skatewheel and a roller configuration. Gravity roller conveyors are often used together with different powered conveyors in a series of conveyor systems. One type is the gravity roller conveyor which is used in transporting or moving products that have smooth bottom surfaces. It is also used with products that have uneven surfaces such as cans, molds, carton packages and pallets. The industry standard for gravity roller conveyors are 10-feet sections with widths ranging from 12 to 30 inches. However, there are many types and roller sizes that are available in the market for different industry application.

An alternative to a gravity roller conveyor is the gravity skatewheel conveyor. It is light weight and economical, which allows it to be moved or reconfigured to allow for storage of larger products. There are also different types of this conveyor and are available in aluminum and steel frame models for use in lightweight and heavyweight applications. They are mostly found in shipping areas and packing stations.

There are usually more than one conveyor in a typical conveyor system. An accumulation conveyor consists of pop up sensor rollers that use a pressurized air system to hold a product in queue until a signal is given for it to be released for the next stage of production. This is an important link in an operation to move products onto a case sealer, a weigh station or any other work station. Among the several types of accumulation conveyor, the most common used in industries are the zero pressure accumulation conveyor and minimum pressure accumulation conveyor. The zero pressure conveyor will eliminate chances of package collision by leaving gaps between boxes while the minimum pressure conveyor will place the individual boxes next to each other with little back pressure. Accumulation conveyors are very important especially in large conveyor systems as it will keep other machines such as the packaging machine from becoming overloaded.

Sorting Conveyors are more expensive compared to other types of conveyors. A sorting system includes scanners and controls that will sort out products and packages according to your specifications. There are many types of sorting conveyors including the tilt-tray that has trays that are connected to a chain. These trays tilt to both sides of the conveyor and dumps packages in chutes. This type is suitable for small packages. Another type of the sorting conveyor is the pusher/diverter which is designed for heavy products and packages.
