In all the time roses have been around, they have had a long and ancient history, believed to have been first cultivated in Asia, some five thousand years ago. Long before we were born, roses were part of Greek mythology and Egyptian times. For instance, in Greek mythology, it is believed that Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, gave the rose its name.
