Why do I need a rotavator?
Rotavators are perfect for any keen gardener, amateur or professional. They help to make your soil prepped and ready for cultivation this summer!
Rotavators, Tillers and Cultivators
A rotavator, also known as a tiller or cultivator, is a motorised cultivator that turns the soil by means of rotating tines or blades. These blades are intended to break up soil ready for planting.
Petrol Rotavators
There are many brands of petrol rotavators available on the market. Petrol rotavators normally tend to come with more power than electric rotavators and popular brands include Mantis, Husqvarna and Mountfield. Petrol rotavators are available in a range of widths, from a small 9" tiller, to the larger Husqvarna T560RS which has a working width of 33 inches.
Mantis Petrol Tillers
Mantis tillers are very good quality, small petrol tillers. The Mantis petrol tiller is very light weight (only 11kg), and it features a 25cc Honda engine which is simple to start and requires no mixing. The Mantis petrol tiller has a 9" tine width and will till down to 10". Mantis have patented, reversible serpentine tines: A design that digs deep into any soil, even hard clay, and won't bounce like other mini-tillers.
Husqvarna Petrol Rotavators
Husqvarna produce a range of fantastic quality petrol rotavators in a variety of sizes. The small Husqvarna T300RS rotavator is an extremely light and handy model for work in the home garden or for hobby farmers. As it is light weight, it makes the machine very easy to both operate and transport. The 'medium' sized Husqvarna rotavators include the Husqvarna T50RS rotavator which is easy to manage, and it is a strong, light machine for garden use and hobby farmers. It has a Robin Subaru EX130HC OHC 4hp engine and a cultivating width of 60cm. The larger Husqvarna rotavators include the Husqvarna T560RS rotavator which is an advanced petrol rotavator for high demands. It is equipped with a reliable, quiet and easy-start engine from Robin-Subaru. The Husqvarna TR430 is a cutting edge rear-tine cultivator for heavy duty use. It has a capable Subaru 169cc engine, and the bulky wheels with chevron tyres and counter-rotating tines provide exceptional access and broken up soil.
Mountfield Petrol Rotavators
Mountfield produce a range of petrol rotavators designed for home users, or for the allotment. The Mountfield Manor Compact rotavator is a compact, easy to use rotavator eminently appropriate for small domestic plots. The Mountfield Manor 35 Rotavator is capable enough to take on larger plots thanks to its 54cm working width and the Mountfield Manor 55R rotavator is the biggest of the Mountfield petrol rotavators with a 54cm working width.
Electric Rotavators
Electric rotavators (electric tillers) are planned for home use without the need of having to start a petrol engine. Electric tillers contain the Mantis electric tiller. The Mantis electric tiller is light weight (9.5kg) with a handle and 3 speeds to adapt to any gardening project. The tines spin up to 240 rpm. The tilling depth of the Mantis electric tiller is 10" or reverse the tines to shallow cultivate the top 2"-3" of soil.
You can use Rotavators, Tillers and Cultivators for your own garden, or a hobby farm, right up to larger plots of land.
