Rogues are an interesting character that are cunning, quick as well as deadly. As a Rogue you will have many talents that make you unique to all the other characters in WOW; these talents are what makes a Rogue such a powerful character class.
Rogues are a class that have very few similarities to any other character in the game. Blizzard truly made a fun and different character type to play. Normal is not a word commonly used when describing a Rogue. They are the only melee combat class to not wear plated armor (leather is the highest they can wear).

Rogues use energy instead of mana or focus. This energy is used to build combination points that allow them to create stronger attacks. The use of their stealth mode is key in doing high amounts of damage, it becomes nearly impossible for a target to defend against their quick and precise attacks. As a smaller character in World of Warcraft, you would not think of a Rogue as overly powerful. But in fact they are one of the strongest characters Blizzard has ever developed. Along with their extreme power, they also possess great speed. Being able to cut down an enemy from the shadows and then disappear just as quickly is a trademark attack by for Rouges.
Beyond anything else, a Rogue is all about survival. A Rogue character can be so much fun to play. They have a ton of different aspects that are unique only to them, such as finding and getting rid of any traps you might come in contact with. Traps can be a deadly way for a group to die. They are meant to distract and destroy groups within raids. When you don't have to worry about them, raids become much easier.
Disappearing from your enemies' line of sight is always a useful trick. That is why stealth is such a key part to the Rogues attack plan. The weakest point for any enemy is their back, stealth allows you to get there without them knowing. You will want to master this skill, especially if you plan on fighting other players in battle grounds. If used properly stealth will give you an advantage over everyone on the field of battle.
As a Rogue you have the ability to poison your targets, slowly draining them of life as you attack them. Rogues are the only character class allowed this skill, and it is why they are so devastating to their enemies. Lastly, Rogues are masters at lock picking, and can open any locked item you may come across. This can be an easy way to make gold, other players will tip you for unlocking any boxes that they find.

Like their name suggests, Rogues are created to be very selfish characters. They have no spells or buffs that help their fellow players which makes them somewhat of a liability when in a group, but they should make up for it in the amount of damage they do. What strikes me as the weird is the armor Rogues wear. All melee classes wear plated armor but Rogues, their leather armor is the weakest of all of them. Their lack of armor makes them very vulnerable to attacks if targeted. Don't generate too much threat! That is the number one rule as a Rouge. If you do you will be in a very bad position with very little armor to protect you. This is the biggest reason for all of the escape tricks built into the Rogue. Without them, you would be an easy target.
Watch out who you do battle with when you are leveling your Rogue. Sense you have no way of regaining your health besides food and potions, you will be easy to kill by higher level characters. This is the time when you will truly hone your escape skills. Timing will be everything and you will have plenty of practice.
Unlike other characters, your weapon choice is vital to what talent build you want to have. If you upgrade your weapon to a different kind, you might need to change talent specs as well. Make sure you pay close attention to how the talents you choose limit/enhance your current weapon.
A prime example is the Assassination talent tree, if you have two dagger weapons, then this is the best build for you. If you want the best DPS numbers then you will want to get two daggers and use this talent build. If you plan on leveling a Rogue you should use the Combat talent tree and find two one handed weapons that are not daggers. While you level you will face mobs of enemies as well as single targets. Combat allows you to successful defeat both types.
Altogether different from the other character classes, Rogues are always an adventure. With so many different tricks up their sleeves, you will always have something new to learn as a Rogue. If you can over look their leather based armor, you can truly enjoy the huge amounts of damage that each Rouge can do.
