Route 66 Attractions- What Remains Of The Original Mother Road

The original mother road of Route 66 has broken down due to numerous state and interstate routes

. However a smaller version of it still remains and is considered one of the most taken highways for both Americans and tourists who want to experience the many wonders that this route has to offer. Route 66 attractions are many. The history of Route 66 spans over a century. The Government of America decommissioned the Original route 66 in 1985 and was replaced by Interstate 40. Now all we have of the original route 66 are in books, music and the American imagination.

The beginning of the Route 66 is quite phenomenal. In 1925, the Congree commissioned a decree by which many existing roads were joined together. It became the most sought after road. Tourists who liked driving joined them and it was a new experience for them different types of natural and man made wonders were its main attractions.

Williams, Arizona on Route 66 is home to the Twisters soda fountain. It is perfect for a quick family lunch. The next stop is Oatman where you can take your camera out and get a quick snap of wild mules wandering at a slow pace through the streets of Oatman. This is perfect replica of the Wild West town.

The Grand Canyon Route 66 attractions is one of the best and cherished by all tourists who take this route. It is located near Seligman. A 21 floor underground lift takes you to the dark cavern. Stop at the historic Beale Hotel, the Bonelli House, and the Old Courthouse in Kingman Arizona. The Forest National Park in between Holbrook and Navajo is home to prehistoric petrified wood and Indian artifacts. The Agate House, located here is a native American home made of petrified wood. Seligman is the next stop. This old town has a old world charm with small shops lining the pavement selling small knick knacks. Another place to sell numerous route 66 items is Hackeberry.


One of the most important Route 66 attractions is in Valentine, Arizona is the wildlife park. It is home to a wide variety of animals like tigers, wolves, cougars, and lions. The Peach Springs in Arizona is the seat of the Hualpai Indian Nation .

The Meteor Crater which is 570 ft deep and is in Winslow Arizona, is a major tourists spot. It marks the place where a crater has been formed due to the meteor impact in 1903. The Pinted desert in Northern Arizona is located in the Navajo area. The area include 146 square mile of badland.
